Balclutha New Hall Opening

Balclutha Redeveloped Church Complex Opened

The St. Andrew's church complex redevelopment was officially opened by the Synod Moderator, Mrs. Christine Hansen, on a fine sunny Sunday afternoon, July the 26th.

A large crowd joined in a service of worship giving thanks to God for the new hall.  The afternoon started in the church with a welcome from the parish Minister, Brian Walker. The Synod Moderator, Christine, preached from John 6:1-21 then the congregation moved out to the main doors of the new hall where Christine, along with some of the children of the parish cut the ribbon to open the building.  The children were piped into the hall as a symbol of new beginnings and new life.

The Synod's Executive Officer lead the prayer of dedication and the parish choir sang. Councillor Mary Johnstone spoke on behalf of the Clutha District Council congratulating the parish and expressing the Council's appreciation for the commitment the parish has shown in the district by undertaking this project.

The complex's architect, Neil McDowell, also spoke and outlined some of the possibilities the design of the new hall opens up for it's use.  Doug Hay also spoke on behalf of the building committee and Pastor Beven Taylor congratulated the parish on behalf of the Balclutha Ministers’ Association.

The function ended with afternoon tea.
