2009 Women's Retreat

This year's retreat was again held at En Hakkore in the Maniototo.  The weather forecast was not hopeful with a forecast of cold with snow to low levels.  Well, it was cold in the wind but the sun shone, we had light snow showers with sun.  The venue was very warm.

Nine ladies attended this year and among other things went for cooffee and 'retail therapy' at Ranfurly's antique shops followed by a show and tell when they returned.
We watched a movie on Saturday night and tissues were in demand.

Church on Sunday was joining the Manitototo parish for it's Spring flower service under the very able leadership of Stephanie Wells, minister of the parish.  The weather was more winter than spring but the welcome was warm.

Comments from some who attended:

'What can I say about our retreat at Waipiata – the peace, the warmth, good company.  Watching the mountains  play hide and seek with the clouds.  Seeing snow fall through sunshine.  We were blessed to have time to relax together, refresh prior acquaintances and make new ones.  We heard about different ways of doing ministry from each other and were encouraged to keep on just being ourselves.   Christine and Barbara never let us go hungry, we watched out for each other.  I felt loved. Thank you.'

'The best thing about the weekend it was letting me do whatever I want whenever I want.
I got served by the best chefs in the country in my book – Christine and Barbara.  Thank you so much.  Thank you for thinking of me.'

'Not long after arriving at En Hakkore on the Friday night, I can feel myself letting go of all the concerns I bring with me.  The air is so crisp and clear, and the views are so expansive it is an ideal place to 'let go and let God.'
Thank you so much to the Synod for this gift – a recognition of all the work and support that women in ministry offer.
It's a wonderful opportunity once a year to take a step back, see the big picture, rest and refresh with time to read, sleep, walk, talk, do favourite hobbies, or do nothing.  The meals are fantastic and the company good.  The extra night is a real bonus. It is something I book on my calendar early and look forward to each year.'

'Thanks for the weekend - I found the chatting/networking very valuable.
Now just have to loose the weight I put on!!'

Next years dates are now know so book them now  Friday evening October 15th to Monday morning the 18th 2010.  See you there.
