KIDS2KIDS COME TO VISIT DUNEDIN
In January 2010 Flagstaff Union Parish hosted the Kids2Kids team from First Church, Papakura, Auckland. The Kids2Kids team led by the amazing Warrick Baty are available to come along to your church/community in January for a week and run a holiday programme in partnership with you – but they put in all the hard yards, the programme outline, the great computer graphics, the worship and the dramas plus much more. For them this gives an opportunity for their Kids to use their gifts and talents and for us an opportunity to share the Good News about Jesus with our local community.
The Kids2Kids team consisted of 9 young people, 7 of them aged between 10 – 14yrs old, their 2 assistant leaders 16/17yrs and Warrick.
Our programme each day looked something like this:
1st hour – games led by Warrick, he is a genius with games, involving all the children and playing great team involvement games
Morning tea – each team eats together
Worship Time – we learnt some great new songs
2nd hour – teaching time, this is where Warrick says nothing and the young leaders run the session with stories, memory verse games, object lessons, dramas, a quiz type game and then pulling it altogether with a wind up.
I and my team were so impressed with these young people, standing up in front of 26 children and delivering their part with no script or prompting.
Timothy led a number of the quiz type games and at 10 years old gave very clear and precise instructions, Zoe aged 13 told the most fantastic stories from the bible with great expression and with so much detail – I was inspired by her story telling.
Lorna demonstrated to us that God’s Love in us should overflow to all those around us so that they then will also be filled with God’s Love, Lorna demonstrated this using the wine glasses stacked in a pyramid type display and pouring coloured liquid into the top glass and letting it overflow into the glasses underneath. This was a great visual lesson and one of the parents helping out with morning tea said “that was so amazing to see God’s love demonstrated like that –it made it really clear to me”.
The presentation of a real sheep’s heart was gross enough to capture the kids attention – well done Sam.
As the host church having a group come in and lead a holiday programme was very beneficial, it is always healthy to see ‘another way’ to do something, to get some fresh ideas – but for us to see Kids ministering to other kids was something new and refreshing and challenging . . .
If you have the opportunity to invite the Kids2Kids team to your church, take it and be prepared to meet some great kids and have a great holiday club.
